Social Responsibility & Sustainable Development

MEDICA is committed to sustainable growth and energy reduction for all its facilities

In July 2007, MEDICA set up a working committee to develop specific initiatives with focus on sustainable growth and respect for the environment. These include energy consumption (water, electricity, gas, fuel), waste disposal (ink cartridges, batteries, lightbulbs) and carbon emissions of company vehicles.

A few examples include:

  • MEDICA has signed a partnership with EDF (French electricity provider) to develop an energy audit which identifies sources of heat loss: inefficient heating, badly sealed windows, etc.
  • MEDICA has developed several eco-responsible building projects.
  • Four of MEDICA’s facilities operate with geothermal heat pumps: Les Lilas, Villars-Les-Dombes, Tarbes and La Baule. Opened in September 2007, the Claude Bernard facility at Oullins is equipped with external insulation which prevents heat build-up, a common cause of energy loss.

An employment policy in favour of people living with disabilities

MEDICA strongly supports the integration of people with disabilities and has developed an employment policy that specifically addresses the promotion of diversity in the workplace. This is in accordance with the French law of 11 February 2005 which defends the “equality of rights, opportunities and citizenship for people with disabilities”.

MEDICA has taken specific actions designed to:

  • Expand the pool of applicants to include people with disabilities or from vulnerable groups by offering them full-time work, part-time contracts or work experience opportunities.
  • Encourage the integration and promotion of people with disabilities in the workplace through on-going training and education.

Over 118 people living with disabilities are currently employed by MEDICA, working across all areas of company business: caregivers (26%), medical support (25%), catering & accommodation (17.5%) and administration (12%).

Socially Responsible Investment

MEDICA has long been committed to social responsibility. On a day-to-day basis this means company-wide respect for a number of important values which have helped MEDICA to grow, notably corporate governance, human resources, the environment and interaction with civil society.
