Results of the 2010 social climate survey
3 524 employees of the MEDICA Group responded to the survey carried out by the CSA Institute, for the 4th edition of the social climate survey. This anonymous survey, carried out each year by a body independent to the MEDICA Group, is a direct opinion of employees concerning their work environment.
The survey, carried out from 22 March to 11 April 2010 by the CSA, reveals that:
- 91% of employees state that they like working in a MEDICA facility (2009: 90%),
- 98% of employees like their job (2009: 97%),
- 8 employees out of 10 would recommend working at MEDICA to their family circle. A recommendation rate far higher than in 2009 (2009: 7 employees out of 10),
Significant improvement of the indicators between 2006 and 2010
Numerous indicators have improved significantly between 2006, the year the 1st barometer was carried out, and 2010: work organisation (+14%), resources made available to work optimally (+16%), quality of care (+11%), MEDICA's image (+12%), news flow within each facility (+10%)…The general satisfaction rate of employees has increased by more than 10% between 2006 and 2010.
This increase over numerous aspects demonstrates the pertinence of the specific action plans introduced nationally by the Group. Result of the three previous social climate surveys conducted in 2006, 2008 and 2009 have enabled the Group to focalise its initiatives made to improve working conditions and employee’s professional development prospects.
Moreover, for a second year in a row, the results have been transcribed establishment by establishment thereby enabling the provision of a local indicator and the refinement of areas of improvement to be made regarding communication, work organisation, work resources…
Numerous initiatives have thus been taken to improve the quality of careand of staff’s daily working environment, such as the ordering of new hospital beds, refurbishments of designated break rooms and areas…
Progress regarding employee information has been made since 2006, thanks to the implementation of document management base MEDIGED, to the appointment of referral colleagues in each establishment who ensure the relaying of information, to the sending of the company magazine Echanges to each of the Group's employees home address, to the circulating of a monthly information letter to designated relaying colleagues.
Nevertheless, improvements can still be made concerning employee access to qualified and certified training, so as to better inform each employee in the group about their own development prospects.
Two major axes of progress in 2010
The performance of the MEDICA Group relies on the quality and involvement of its employees. That is why the MEDICA Group strives to develop the skills of its teams, so as to strengthen the contribution of each individual to the Group's quality and economic objectives.
According to the 2010 social climate survey carried out by the CSA Institute, 85% of employees questioned acknowledge MEDICA Group's desire to train its teams well. On the other hand, the 2010 barometer demonstrates lower levels of satisfaction concerning development opportunities, information on training openings and the matching of those openings to each person's needs.
Greater access to various training openings available to all the Group’s employees as well as the launch of a new format for the company magazine Echanges are the two priority workshops for the 2nd half of 2010.
The quarterly company magazine Echanges – which has existed for 5 years – will experience a shift in its editorial content which will move closer to the everyday experiences of each person in his/her establishment. The new Echanges will, moreover, be more extensively illustrated. It will be an important information vehicle for the Group's training openings within the Group.
The Group is also working on a new initiative with in mind the prospect of improving employee information and access to the various training openings on offer leading to qualifications and certificates.
